DR. DON’S LANDSCAPING TIP OF THE WEEK; 7/6/2009:
In Colorado, the summer months of June, July, and August are among some of the hottest and surely the driest we receive all year due to a usual lack in rainfall and humidity. As such, many homeowners will notice their lawns beginning to turn yellow or even brown. To help combat this, turn your mower deck dial back to a cutting height of at least 3.5 inches. Not only will this keep your lawn from going into “summer shock”, but it will also decrease the amount of water you use as a thicker, longer lawn requires less watering. In addition, keeping the grass slightly higher during the summer will also produce a thicker, more compact root base; thus, helping stop any further weed growth.
